The Qatar Chess Federation officially announced the next International Open Masters Tournament. A game total of 9 rounds will be held from 10th - 20th of October 2023.
2014
A chinese grand master "Yu Yangyi" become the first Qatar Masters Champion having a score of 7.5/9 received a price of $25,000 defeating a Dutch grandmaster "Anish Giri" who took the spot of 2nd rank which received $15,000.
2015
Magnus Carlsen, a Norwegian GM won the previous Qatar Masters 2015 Title. this was held last Dec 29,2015. Carlsen on his 42nd move Ng6+ defeats Yu Yangi. Game ends when Yu Yangi who plays black run out of time.
Each game was set to have a 90mins for the first 40moves and additional 30minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30seconds per move starting from move one.
A 2-game blitz match with a time control of 5 mins with 3 seconds increment per move starting from move 1 sets as a tiebreaker where in Carlsen Gained a score of +5 that made him to the Top. See below Analysis board.
